GOLAW at the Ukraine Green Recovery Conference: what was discussed

The international conference Ukraine Green Recovery Conference, organized by the European Commission, took place in Vilnius from November 28 to December 1.

The event was dedicated to Ukraine’s “green” recovery and consisted of five sessions. Ukraine was represented by a number of politicians, public figures, entrepreneurs and business representatives.

The speakers discussed, among other things, the following:

  • damage to environmental infrastructure in Ukraine caused by Russian aggression;
  • strategies and concrete solutions for the “green” recovery of Ukraine;
  • Ukraine’s progress in approximation to EU standards in the field of green economy;
  • public procurement processes and general requirements for green recovery, etc.

In addition, the conference presented a strategy for comprehensive assistance to Ukraine, ranging from practical aid on the path to EU accession and financial support to technical support (the Phoenix Initiative) through the European Commission’s programs.

GOLAW, as a legal expert in the energy sector and a partner of the European-Ukrainian Energy Transformation Center, could not stand aside from this critical event for Ukraine. The event was attended by Oleksandr Melnyk, head of corporate law and M&A practice.

I am grateful for the EU’s support, new opportunities for cooperation, networking, and interesting panel discussions. I am inspired by the proposed funding, grants, the interest of European businesses and NGOs in rebuilding Ukraine, as well as the number and steepness of green recovery projects. The clear message from policymakers is that reconstruction should begin as soon as possible without waiting for the war to end. However, business is in no hurry, given the military risks, which postpones foreign investment and cool initiatives for later

Oleksandr summarized.
