More about the practice
Sanctions, export control and international trade are changing faster today than ever before. Sanctions regimes against the aggressor state and sanctioned parties, restrictions on dual-use goods, customs and currency rules, trade barriers — all of these directly affect the cross-border movement of goods, funds and technologies. For business, this means that a single overlooked requirement can halt a supply, block a payment or lead to liability, and a mistake in screening a counterparty can result in dealing with a sanctioned party.
GOLAW helps clients conduct foreign economic activity with confidence: complying with sanctions and export restrictions, clearing customs, building international trade relationships and protecting their interests in investigations and disputes. We combine knowledge of Ukrainian law with an understanding of international regimes (EU, US and UK sanctions, export control requirements) and WTO practice, which enables us to support operations that fall under several jurisdictions at once.
We work with both sides of cross-border trade. For foreign companies entering the Ukrainian market or investing in Ukrainian assets, we help verify sanctions and regulatory risks, structure transactions and pass compliance. For Ukrainian companies entering the markets of the EU, the US and other countries, we help build export operations in line with international requirements. Our clients include major foreign and national companies, producers, exporters and importers across various industries.
GOLAW lawyers have significant experience in the planning and regulation of foreign economic activity, sanctions compliance and export control, customs regulation, structuring international trade agreements with regard to tax and currency aspects, and supporting trade and anti-dumping investigations.
