GOLAW Partners Participated in AEEC Symposium on Investment in Ukrainian Energy Sector

Meisenheim, Germany – August 30, 2024 – Managing Partner at GOLAW Valentyn Gvozdiy and Senior Partner at GOLAW Sergiy Oberkovych participated in the high-level symposium “Financing Europe’s Transition to Net-Zero Energy” organized by the Associated European Energy Consultants (AEEC). Valentyn Gvozdiy presented key insights on investment opportunities in Ukraine’s energy sector, highlighting the unique potential that Ukraine currently offers to foreign investors.

In his presentation, Valentyn Gvozdiy outlined Ukraine’s efforts to attract foreign investment through unprecedented government initiatives. These initiatives include exemptions from VAT and customs duties on electrical equipment imported into Ukraine, tax holidays, and significant simplifications in bureaucratic processes. “Our government is taking bold steps to make Ukraine attractive for investment, especially in the energy sector,” emphasized Valentyn Gvozdiy. He noted that despite the ongoing war, Ukraine has managed to attract over $1 billion in energy project investments, demonstrating the resilience and potential of the Ukrainian economy.

Valentyn Gvozdiy also highlighted the paradox of increasing investments during wartime, noting the positive impact of existing political and military risk insurance mechanisms, which provide additional confidence to investors. He stressed that these preferences are unprecedented and may not always be available, making the current moment critically important for the successful implementation of investment projects in Ukraine’s energy sector.

In conclusion, Valentyn Gvozdiy expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Ukraine’s energy sector is ready for investment, and the steps we take today will lay the foundation for a sustainable and independent energy future for our country.”

AEEC symposia are known for attracting leading professionals from the energy and legal sectors. GOLAW has extensive experience in successfully supporting investment projects, securing financing, and protecting investors, banks, and financial institutions in complex legal proceedings, particularly in combating oligarchic influence in Ukraine. This experience has proven invaluable in overcoming the challenges posed by the ongoing war. The firm continues to play a key role in attracting investments that contribute to Ukraine’s energy independence and overall economic recovery.
