The ECHR without myths: First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Supreme Court Rasim Babanly in the new GOLAW podcast
For most people, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) remains a complex and distant institution, but today its decisions have become a real tool that protects citizens and businesses even when other mechanisms are powerless. In the new GOLAW podcast, we decided to explain how to actually make this large-scale mechanism work for you.
This time, a special guest joined the discussion — First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Supreme Court and Doctor of Law Rasim Babanly. Together with Kateryna Tsvetkova, Partner at Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice at GOLAW, they took a look behind the scenes of the Strasbourg court to explain why 90% of complaints are dismissed at the outset due to trivial errors and how not to lose your chance by missing deadlines.
During the conversation, the experts discussed in detail how ECHR decisions become a source of law in Ukraine and why they are binding on the Supreme Court. This is especially important for entrepreneurs, as it is the practice in Strasbourg that is creating a new legal reality in matters of property rights protection and other key business processes. The challenges of war were also discussed. The speakers analyzed Ukraine’s strategic cases against the russian federation, explaining how international law responds to current events and what to expect from these processes in the future.
