GOLAW has a prominent role in renewable energy projects in Ukraine, providing comprehensive legal support for project development and corporate transactions in the solar and wind energy sectors. Finance partner Sergiy Oberkovych and corporate partner Max Lebedev, who is now vice chairman of the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency, are the key practitioners. They recently assisted joint Spanish-Turkish company Beycelik-Elawan with long-term lease agreements for private land for the development of a 50MW wind farm.
GOLAW has more than 15 years of experience in white-collar criminal defence work, where it handles all stages of criminal proceedings. Its work includes legal support in negotiations for the return of illegally retained assets and documentation, as well as representing clients’ interests in investigations and prosecutions by law enforcement agencies. GOLAW frequently handles company formations, investment structuring and the drafting of corporate documents and shareholders agreements, as well as supporting clients in M&A transactions. Sergiy Oberkovych and Max Lebedev advised Indian Solar on sale of a portfolio of solar power projects with capacity of 140MW. The firm has a diverse client base in sectors such as IT, telecoms and energy.
GOLAW has a multifaceted litigation practice that is known for tax and bankruptcy disputes, contentious contractual matters and debt collection. Valentyn Gvozdiy, who is vice president of the Ukrainian National Bar Association, is recognised for his complex commercial litigation and white-collar crime cases. He co-heads the practice with Kateryna Manoylenko, who specialises in civil, commercial and administrative disputes. They recently represented Export Guarantee and Insurance Corporation in an €18m bankruptcy case.
GOLAW handles the structuring of family businesses and related tax matters, as well as audits, risk analysis and the transfer of assets. It is also recommended for the establishment of trusts and funds, as well as advising on the residence status of foreigners and citizens of Ukraine. REAL ESTATE AND CONSTRUCTION
GOLAW acts for investors on cross-border real estate transactions, property management matters and leases. In addition, it assists developers with contractual matters arising from the construction of industrial projects, including the drafting of cross-border EPC contracts. The firm’s recent work has included many high-value leasing matters. It advised Ubisoft Ukraine on the $20m long-term lease of a business centre for ten years. Sergiy Oberkovych and Max Lebedev are the lead partners.
GOLAW has a six-lawyer tax practice that excels in corporate tax advice and regulatory compliance with the changing tax laws in Ukraine. Iryna Kalnytska leads the tax, restructuring, claims and recoveries group. She frequently advises both domestic and international companies on risk mitigation and tax structuring. Recent work included representing Evyap Trading Ukraine, in a UAH 65m tax dispute. Managing partner Valentyn Gvozdiy also plays a central role in the practice.
